Two Bromley girls have run and swum their way to UK titles at one of the first events at London’s Olympic Park since 2012’s games.

Imogen Meers and Sabrina Sinha, from Bromley High School, were competing in the Pentathlon GB National Schools Biathlon Championships on Saturday (April 5).

Imogen scooped the under-12 age group crown, while Sabrinha bagged the top spot in the under-15 category – with the independent girls’ school the only one involved to see pupils win two individual accolades.

Headteacher Louise Simpson said: “With so much importance placed on the Olympic legacy for youngsters after London 2012, we could not be more proud that Imogen and Sabrina have won their national titles in one of the first events.

“They are both exceptional athletes and we could not be more delighted for them to have played their part already in ensuring the nation's sporting legacy for the future.”

Sabrina was also the only participant to break the five-minute barrier in the 1,600 run, racking up a time of 4.57.61.

Her third title in as many years, she said: “The more times you win it the more pressure there is. Running is my strongest point and I knew I needed to go out and get a time in the swim and then try and open up a big gap at the start of the run.

“I could see the Olympic Stadium when I was warming up for the run and I thought of all the athletes I’d seen there on television two years ago. It’s so beautiful and it’s really inspiring to be here.”

While Imogen, who managed sixth place last time round, said: “I couldn’t believe it – it was amazing to swim in the Olympic Pool.”
