AN Eltham children’s choir is celebrating after drumming up £5,000 from the community to take their place at a top global singing competition.
Deansfield Primary School’s choir feared they might not be able to raise funds for travel and accommodation for 50 children after they bagged a spot at the international Eisteddfod festival in Wales.
But following News Shopper’s article, support rolled in from businesses and well-wishers and the choir even performed for singer Paloma Faith on BBC Radio London.
The talented youngsters, led by choir master David Moore, can now compete at the festival in July where they aim to be crowned Children’s Choir of the Year.
One donation came from a lady in Alabama, USA, who heard the singers on the radio, and wrote: "I was so amazed by your beautiful voices that I felt compelled to help you all get to your choir competition in Wales."
While £750 came from the Royal Artillery Band who handed over a cheque after dropping in to hear the choir rehearse.
