A cat has been shot in Downham, leaving its leg broken in four places.

At 12.30pm last Friday Dusty the domestic long-haired cat left his home in Shroffold Road for an afternoon wander.

Shanice Lindo, who has owned the 3-year-old since he was a kitten, said when he returned he was in a lot of pain.

The 21-year-old said: "My dad let the cat out at about 12.30 in the afternoon.

"When he came back an hour later he was limping really badly and crying.

"We called the vet and got an appointment at about five.

"The vet said someone had shot my cat with a pellet gun which had caused severe damage to his leg.

"The vet said it was really bad - his femur bone is broken in four places and the pellet was still lodged in his leg.

"He said he needed major surgery."

News Shopper:

The horrific break can be seen in the femur bone on the left hand side

Dusty was taken to a specialist vet where he received surgery costing £2,500.

Miss Lindo added: "When we found out what was wrong with him we had to take him to the specialist.

"They performed the surgery on his leg yesterday. He seems OK now, he is recovering and eating.

"I think, whoever did it, they are awful.

"I know some people don't like cats but don't shoot them.

"Maybe he walked into their backyard or maybe he was with someone else's cat and they didn't like that.

"I am scared to let Dusty out when he gets back. I think he'll be scared to go out.

"There are a lot of cats in the area and I want people to know so they can protect their cat."

News Shopper:

A gun pellet remained lodged in Dusty's leg

Calie Rydings, of the RSPCA, said: "What goes through the heads of people who would shoot an animal like this is something I will never understand.

"Unfortunately it is not as rare as we would like, especially around this time of year when people are out and about.

"Cats and wildlife are more susceptible simply because they are out in the open with no one to protect them. The injuries caused by such attacks are horrific and often fatal.

"These attacks are often deliberate by people who just don’t care about hurting animals or deliberately targeting animals to keep them away from gardens.

"It is illegal to shoot at and cause unnecessary suffering to any domestic animal with an air weapon."

News Shopper:

A police spokeswoman said: ""Anyone with information about this incident can call police on 101 or contact the Downham safer neighbourhoods team on 0208 721 2486."

Disgusting - these evil scums bags should be caught and trialed for attempted murder. Some people might disagree but, why should a harmless living animail be treated any differently to a Human??? if they are capable of shooting an animal how long will it be until they turn to people!

I completely agree.

Judging by the way some people who post on the NS forum feel about other human beings I no longer find mindless acts like this surprising in our area - if people can't even feel compassion for other human beings (and even class them as a 2nd class), how can they feel compassion for animals? It is a sad world we live in when people can do this and have no sympathy for a fellow human who has died. It wouldn't surprise me if the sick **** who did this was also one of the sick ***** who posts on here - it is said that criminals bask in their 'glory' and like to read about their 'adventures'.

I just hope whoever did this meets a similar fate. Karma++

There are some truly wicked people around these days. I can't bear to see an animal hurt for no reason permissible. To pick on defenseless animals just shows how low the mentality of these people are. They need serious watching over if that's all they can resort to. Who knows what or who will be the next target in their tiny minds! I hope Dusty makes a good recovery in both mind and body. Animals are worth far more than humans. Especially ones like these sickos.

For a person with a 'title' you really are stupid. On that note, I shall not be wasting my breath on any more of your tedious remarks. For one thing LOVE, they are repetitive, secondly, they show you as a sad moron.
As for wr9 being more popular than slb, good for wr9. I like what he has to say. Makes far better reading than your drivel.
One last point. Why assume it is I who manipulate votes old or new? You really are clueless. How did you become a doctor again?

Lol, our Army hands out more than just medals 'love', but then why would you know that. And before you ask, yes I did earn my doctorate as well as my medals, both out in the field.

Don't worry 'love', you are just mere entertainment to us lads here right now - in fact you will be featuring in a talk I am giving at the Union Jack Club in Waterloo later this month entitled "My Mate Lee"; it's not about you, but you will definitely get a mention. There you go, the FAME and ATTENTION you crave at last ... Want me to send you an invite? lol

Indeed. And if you look at how the voting across the board works, you find it is WR9 and SLB who get the most votes - are there really that many mad people? Guess there must be if we are to believe the voting. One could almost believe that WR9 and SLB are one and the same sometimes :)

What I find most hilarious is, a comment that is a good few days old can suddenly gain 20 or 30 (or more) votes either way within about an hour - I have watched it happen and it always appears to be the same 1 or 2 people who do it for or against the same people (they also change their own votes at the same time). It is amazing to think that some people have the time let alone the mentality to do something so puerile and pointless...

I'll just sit back and watch some 'negs' roll in now ;) lol

Took you long enough to think of that 'humorous' retort didn't it? Still, I guess thats's pretty quick for a 'tard' like you ... lol

Btw, the invite to meet the lads at the talk was a genuine one, I think they would enjoy your company. The club is only at Waterloo so it is just a short train ride away. I'd like to point you out when I mention you - the talk is called "My Mate Lee" and is about how the general public think they own military people and 'identify' with them; when in reality the public have no concept of military life or what it means to serve. It focuses on the 'romantic notion' and the 'delusion' which drive members of the public to 'join' the cause' (so to speak) whenever something hits the media.

Guess which camp you are mentioned and referenced in? Here's a clue, it isn't romance ... lol

Still, I guess thats's pretty quick for a 'tard' like you ... lol Btw, the invite to meet the lads at the talk was a genuine one, I think they would enjoy your company. Here's a clue, it isn't romance ... lol Dr. Nick

Awww, too scared to answer the question are we? As we all suspected, all mouth and nothing else. Well, you just keep making stupid comments and voting other peoples comments down - you still don't get it, Nobody Cares. Oh and keep giving yourself positive voting, nobody else will because Nobody Cares.

You have just proved yourself to be what we all suspected you to be; a brainless internet Troll with no life and no life skills. I actually feel pity for you; it's sad. Come back when you can interact and debate with the adults and not just attempt to offend others like a child. Goodbye little internet Troll.
