Bromley’s woodlands are set to benefit from over £150,000 of funding this year.

The council has announced this week nearly £160,000 will be used to “improve access, quality and management” at 30 sites across the borough.

It has been made possible thanks to the Forestry Commission’s Woodland Improvement Grant, awarded with the premise free public access remains in place for the next 30 years.

Work will include footpath construction, benches, gates, and new signage and will take place in collaboration with voluntary ‘friends’ groups.

Councillor for environment Colin Smith said: “This is fantastic news. There is absolutely no doubt whatsoever that our green spaces make a huge difference to the lives of people who live, work and visit Bromley.

“The importance of this improvement work, in partnership with various Bromley friends groups simply cannot be overstated”.

The announcement comes as a £100,000 investment was unveiled to replant trees after hundreds were left damaged by winter storms and gales.
