Bromley celebrity chef Rachel Khoo and Doreen Lawrence in Marks and Spencer's Leading Ladies fashion campaign

News Shopper: Bromley celebrity chef and Eltham's Doreen Lawrence in fashion campaign Bromley celebrity chef and Eltham's Doreen Lawrence in fashion campaign

BROMLEY chef Rachel Khoo and Baroness Lawrence have been picked to join Marks and Spencer’s Leading Ladies for its spring and summer campaign.

They join the likes of actress and screenwriter Emma Thompson, the Eurythmics’ Annie Lennox and pop star Rita Ora.

Launching on Monday (March 31), M&S’ spring/summer collection celebrates British women from diverse backgrounds and professions who are united by their strong sense of personal style and inspirational achievements. The pictures were shot by the iconic Annie Leibovitz.

Bromley-raised chef and broadcaster, Rachel Khoo, 38, said: “I approach fashion in the same way that I do food. For me, it’s having fun, you can experiment – you have to find something which suits you.”

Old and Un worthy news. None of these people have been inspirational really, just luck had somehow been on their side and thus brought them media fame along with its fortunes.
Such a waste of material source really. The clothes haven't improved either.

What a surprise, the mere mention of Mrs Lawrence in ANY story and look who creeps out from under 'its' stone.

You could bet you property portfolio on it.

And you accused Joe of being down on women? Shame on you. You also wondered what my stance on women was. These are some very fine women who have furthered the female cause immensely. If you are indeed female and not "a truck driver named Gary posing as a female"(tm) on here you should be -UTTERLY- ashamed of yourself.

I have just come back from a Kings College London lecture on "World War I Nurses" and the fantastic achievements and sacrifices they made and I read this? Disgusting. Maybe you need to think harder and less just about your own prejudices - you could do well to take a leaf out of one of these women's books and do something with your life before knocking those who have.

And no, I am not picking on you - you just make yourself a good target by being so vindictive towards others who have done more than you. Find some self dignity and become a woman.

Well if nurses, service people etc. and the like got the recognition they deserved instead of these wasters (singer, actress, chef, model, and the others) and so forth, then I would agree with you. It's disgusting that M&S give credit to these type of people who are really of no influence to women at all
Your pathetically inappropriate attempt at being funny with remarks about truck drivers shows you are secumbing to the lower levels of one, gypo Joe. I did credit you with a bit more savvy than that, but you have disillusioned me totally, and a few others no doubt.
Don't give up the day job.

You really don't get it do you?

Let me spell it out for you. These 'time wasters', these are women. Women who have done well in their professions. They have all moved a barrier in their own way. They have all shown that women can achieve something in what is still seen as a male dominated world. They do this in spite of women like you who are down on them and belittle them. Tell us what you have achieve to further the women's cause in your lifetime and you might get the same respect these women deserve, if not, try harder not to be so down on others who have and are achieving great work - be them, actress, chef, designer, nurse, politician etc.... Does that help you understand?

As to the "Gary"(tm) reference - this is a well know internet reference which started in the early 1990's when the internet first became popular with the masses - did you notice both times I used it it was in quotes with a 'tm' by the side. Perhaps you have never come across this one before, but with comments like the one on here I am sure you will see it more. Your lack of comprehension of such matters only makes you look more foolish.

You asked me in an earlier post:
"I notice though you say nothing of (...) trying to ridicule others on here especially women...........why would that be? Does it imply you condone his treatment of women? If so, that would make you a bigot too."

Well now you know. Who is the -bigot-?

Great story Joe; shows what one can if they put effort into life. Though I am sure some here will try to say that she 'obviously' got some special dispensation for being ... I'll leave them to say that shall I *lol* Anyway she didn't, she is just a bright girl who puts effort into her life and gets the rewards - just like, as you rightly say Joe, the ladies in this story.

Moral of the tale: don't be down on others just because you are jealous and prejudiced - do something with your life.

Where does the jealousy come into it? I have no jealousy against these people whatsoever, I just find them very over rated as well as some being overpaid; after all they are only human beings such as you (!) and I – aren’t they? These random s being picked by M&S to do a photo shoot every other month only do a simple job like:
• Every other actor/actress – act – something most people are good at, with a bit of training.
• singer/writer, wannabe singer – croak or warble – we can all do that and plenty of it, plus stringing a few lines of words together and call that creating a song.
• chef – cook - something you and I can do any day of the week should we choose,
• Model – plenty of them including ethnic past and present, most of them emaciated – such a role model for your children?
• Crusader – be it politicians or ‘joe bloggs’ off the street – self serving (well most of them are) etc. etc.
They do a bog standard job just like most of us. I can’t for the life of me, see where inspiration of what? Comes from them!
I probably have more respect for your profession than I do theirs (if that is your profession?). Maybe you should be put forward for some award for inspiring others to become lefty luvvies and tree huggers.
Changing the subject now, how do you know what goes on in my life? You know nothing at all about me, only what you surmise, and that isn't much to write home about. For all you know, I could possibly have a very comfortable life, which I feel I have been given and very much appreciate. There are some issues I would change but that is neither here nor there and none of your business. As I said, you know absolutely nothing about me apart from your being very judgemental and what you perceive me as being which is taken with a liberal pinch of salt, and what I wish to allow you to see.
How do you know that I don’t own my own business? That I may just be more comfortably off than you? I work very hard for what I do and I don’t say that I am “rolling” in wealth, but I and my family do ok, and no, we have no need to be on benefits thank you – before you start surmising!!!!!
And finally, I did read that article posted by the ‘sheep follower’. Well done to Garbrielle. It is a very good achievement for one so young. Possibly because she did not receive an UK education to start off with in this day and age. Now she has passed her bar exams over here, it’s off back to Florida and rest of Bahamas to finish off. Was it not permissible for her to have taken this law course in America? Would have saved her the trip over here wouldn’t it?

Totally agree with your comments. As an example I know a lovely old lady called 'Joyce' who was told many years ago that she could not have children. Because of her love for children and having so much to give she decided to foster and has been doing so for the past forty years. Joyce takes on children from all backgrounds and some can be very challenging she has basically given up her whole life to help others and never asks for anything in return.
Not only does Joyce foster children from all ages she also helps out at a local disability centre and arranges events and days out for those who are in care homes..... This elderly lady is a woman who should be an inspiration to other women not those who are in the media from week to week only to be paid for their time!!!!
