A group of amateur Lee gardeners got out their trowels and planted new flowers in time for the spring in their local park.
Organiser Josephine Canty explained: "Originally when the Manor House Garden Park was renovated, the re-designed beds and borders were lovely with elegant sensitive planting.
"The bed by the Manor Lane entrance was especially beautiful but, in 2005, the gardeners were instructed to destroy the herbaceous bed, up rooting the valuable herbaceous plants, with instructions to fill the bed with cheap municipal planting."
Ms Canty said he had the work stopped but not before two thirds of the plants were destroyed. And she says further work in 2006 did not improve matters.
Now, with work from this band of volunteers, the bed has been renovated and new herbaceous plants added thanks to a 'big dig' event in the sunshine.
Ms Canty said: "It's amazing what local spirit can achieve."
