Teachers across the area are set to walk out on strike next week in a dispute over pay and pensions.

Members of the National Union of Teachers (NUT) will walk out on March 26, with letters dropping through thousands of parents' doors this week warning about possible disruption.

General secretary Christine Blower said: "Michael Gove's persistent refusals to address our ongoing dispute over pay, pensions and conditions of service, is unnecessary and deeply damaging.

"As a result, thousands of good, experienced teachers are leaving or considering leaving the job and a teacher shortage crisis is looming with two in five teachers leaving the profession in their first five years."

The Department for Education says the union is causing unnecessary disruption by striking, despite the fact it has agreed to talk with them.

Council websites, along with newsshopper.co.uk, will have details of which schools are affected on the day.
