A Gravesend man has been jailed for refusing to pay £10,000 in council tax.
Tiawo Odubajo, of The Warren, was found guilty of wilfully refusing to pay £10,794 in outstanding council tax in June last year and he was given a suspended prison sentence of 170 days.
After he failed to attend two further hearings, Dartford magistrates issued a warrant on January 23 for Odubajo to go to prison.
Magistrates heard he had failed to repay the owed tax.
Odubajo, aged 52, had said he was prepared to go to prison but evaded the warrant officer.
He was arrested in Gravesend town centre and sent to prison on March 3.
He was subsequently released from prison following full payment of his council tax debt.
