BROMLEY’S Churchill Theatre will join the likes of Time Square and the Eiffel Tower this month as the world is plunged into darkness.
It is set to take part in environmental event Earth Hour, which sees people in over 150 countries switch the lights off in the name of green living.
Set up by charity World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), 2013 saw records broken as hundreds of millions of people as well some of the world’s most famous landmarks got together to draw attention to preserving and protecting the planet.
This year is the second time the Churchill Theatre will be involved, with 39 others in the Ambassador Theatre Group (ATG) also taking part.
Manager Sarah Guppy said: “We have a strong commitment to being green and raising the profile of environmental issues whenever possible. “Each small change can make a difference and we are proud to play our part.”
Through the initiative the south-east London venue will be contributing to WWF’s conservation work in the Mara, Kenya, helping wildlife such as lions, cheetahs and elephants.
