The Thames Barrier has closed today (MARCH 3) and will not re-open until 5pm.
This closure is designed to protect properties along the Thames from flooding.
The Environment Agency has warned people to remain vigilant after the wettest winter on record has caused havoc across the UK. A number of flood warnings remain in place.
A spokesman said: “The Thames Barrier will be closed till 5pm due to a combination of high river levels and rain.
“It is flood defence closure, as opposed to a planned one. It was closed on Friday and at certain points over the weekend.”
Advice and guidance about flooding is available on the Environment Agency website and from Floodline on 0845 988 1188.
