A REPORT revealing cyclists feel more unsafe than ever has been published two days after an accident near Bromley Common.

A 41-year-old man was hit by a van in Southborough Lane on Tuesday afternoon and was taken to hospital with head injuries.

Shopkeeper Abaraham Thavarajah, 38, saw the casualty being treated and said “it didn’t look nice”, recalling a similar incident months earlier that also involved a cyclist.

The accident comes as a survey-led report from the London Assembly Transport Committee stating that more than two third of cyclists feel more unsafe than ever.

According to figures accident rates have been rising every year since 2006, with those on two wheels feeling "squashed between cars and buses".

The assembly's called for more to be done to help improve safety. Deputy chair of the committee, Caroline Pidgeon AM said: "Cyclists have been at great risk of accidents and their safety needs to be prioritised as soon as possible."
