A MAN was taken to hospital after falling two metres down a manhole in St Paul's Cray this week.

London Ambulance Service (LAS) was called to the incident in Chipperfield Road at around 7.10pm on Monday.

A spokeswoman said an ambulance, single car and a hazardous area response team were sent to the scene following reports of someone stuck in the open shaft.

The man, said to be in his 30s, was treated for back and leg injuries and was then taken to King’s College Hospital as a priority.

London Fire Brigade was also called to the accident at 7.20pm and had to use lines to fish out the casualty.

A spokesperson said: “The man had fallen around two metres and was treated at the scene by the LAS.

“We used lines to get him out of the hole and the situation was resolved by 7.50pm.”

It’s been reported the man had been stuck for around half an hour before being rescued.
