Escape from Planet Earth 3D (U) Brendan Fraser, Sarah Jessica Parker, Jessica Alba and Ricky Gervais all lend their voices to this animated tale in which astronaut Scorch Supernova is caught in a trap when he responds to an SOS from a dangerous alien planet.

The Grand Budapest Hotel (15) Inimitable director Wes Anderson returns with the story of Gustave, the concierge of a European hotel between the wars. The huge ensemble includes Tilda Swinton, Ed Norton, Jude Law, Willem Dafoe, Ralph Fiennes, Jeff Goldblum and Wes Anderson regulars like Bill Murray, Adrien Brody, Jason Schwartzman and Owen Wilson.

March 12

Need for Speed 3D (12A)

The popular racing game franchise makes the leap from console to the silver screen, and it is sure to be bombastic with Breaking Bad’s Aaron Paul as a street racer fresh from prison looking for revenge against the wealthy businessman who framed him. Also starring Imogen Poots, Michael Keaton and Kidbrooke’s Dominic Cooper.

Under the Skin (15)

British director Jonathan Glazer’s third feature (he also directed Sexy Beast and several hit adverts and music videos) stars Scarlett Johannson as an alien seductress who preys upon hitchhikers in Scotland.

The Zero Theorem (15) It’ll be a busy year for Monty Python member Terry Gilliam and first up is this. Expect twisted and visually interesting. The director’s calling it the final part of a dystopian satire trilogy begun by Brazil in 1985 and continued with 12 Monkeys in 1995. The cast includes Christopher Waltz, Tilda Swinton, David Thewlis, Matt Damon and Ben Whishaw.

A Long Way Down (15) High fidelity, About a Boy and Fever Pitch author Nick Hornby gets the film adaptation treatment again, this time with his tale of four people who meet up on New Year’s Eve and form a surrogate family to help each other through life. It stars Little Miss Sunshine’s Toni Collette, Breaking Bad’s Aaron Paul, Imogen Poots, Rosamund Pike, Sam Neill and Pierce Brosnan.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier 3D (PG) The Marvel franchise is back, with Chris Evans as the hero and Samuel L Jackson also among the cast.

Muppets Most Wanted (PG) It’s time to start the music, Kermit and co are back. With a script by Forgetting Sarah Marshall scribe Nicholas Stoller and the talents of Ricky Gervais, Tina Fey and a whole lot of big names like Lady Gaga and Ray Liotta.

April 4

The Double (15) The IT Crowd actor and talented director of Submarine Richard Ayoade is behind the camera again in a comedy based on a Dostoevsky novel about a man (Jesse Eisenberg) driven mad by the appearance of his doppelganger.
