BEXLEY Council is investing £850,000 into six new rehabilitation flats for older people in Crayford.

Wolsey House in Wolsey Close currently has six long term residents and now the council has purchased the block from housing association Hexagon.

The other six flats will be refurbished to house older people who come out of hospital and who would otherwise need care packages at home.

Councillor Chris Taylor, cabinet member for adult services, told the News Shopper he couldn't reveal how much the council had paid because it was "commercially sensitive information".

He said: "I am very pleased that we have been able to buy up this facility and use it for the good to help older people in our borough. The people living in the block now have a much more certain future."

The first £600,000 that the council is investing will go into the cost of running of the facility and the other £250,000 given in a grant from the government's Community Capacity Fund will go into buying the building and doing the refurbishments.
