Goldfrapp, Jools Holland and Russell Watson line up for Greenwich Music Time festival
Updated 9:39am Monday 24th February 2014 in News
GREENWICH is to host a four night music festival with big names performing at the World Heritage Site of the Old Royal Naval College.
Greenwich Music Time will take place over the August bank holiday with the stage at the heart of Sir Christopher Wren’s iconic twin-domed riverside masterpiece, which attracts more than 1.7 million visits a year and is the backdrop for films like Skyfall and The King’s Speech.
The festival will see the only London performance in 2014 for electropop group Goldfrapp, as well as Russell Watson and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and Jools Holland and his Rhythm and Blues Orchestra with guest Spice Girl Mel C and Soft Cell’s Marc Almond.
Alison Goldfrapp said: “We can't wait to perform at the Greenwich Music Time Festival this summer. We'll be playing a selection of old and new songs in the stunning and beautiful grounds of the Old Royal Naval College. It’s our only London show this year so we look forward to seeing you there.”
The series – from Wednesday, August 20, to Saturday, August 23 – will also showcase the students and recent graduates of Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, who will perform before the headline shows.
Mayor of London Boris Johnson said: "Greenwich Music Time will add to the unbeatable variety of great music events that London hosts throughout the year.
“Amidst the historic surroundings of the Old Royal Naval College, it promises to be a summertime treat and will be another reason to visit this increasingly exciting part of the capital.”
Greenwich residents get priority booking from February 26 to March 2, at greenwichmusictime.co.uk/local and on general sale from March 3. An optional £2 donation to the ORNC Foundation will be applied to each ticket.
