A LEWISHAM festival highlighting the young talent in the area returns next month for its fifth year.

Lewisham Live gives youngpeople the chance to perform music and dance in venues including The Albany in Deptford, Bonnie Bird Theatre at Trinity Laban and Catford's Broadway Theatre.

This year it promises more than 2,000 performers and 14 venues across three weeks from March 10 onwards.

And for the first time it is also training young comperes in association with Greenwich and Lewisham Young People’s Theatre.

Tickets range from completely free to just £10.

Can the borough really afford such extravagence in the wake of being told that the purse strings have got to be tightened even further to appease government targets? Meanwhile, more vital services are being cut back or axed altogether.
