A BROMLEY school is facing "sanctions" after an investigation found "evidence of malpractice".

Exam board Pearson began investigating Ravens Wood School, which has more than 1,400 pupils, in September last year.

A Pearson spokesman told News Shopper: "I can confirm our investigation has found evidence of malpractice at Ravens Wood School.

"Whenever we find malpractice in a school we act to impose appropriate sanctions and work with the school so no student is disadvantaged.

"This case is no different and we will be imposing appropriate sanctions on both the school and individuals."

No further details were given.

The Observer reported in September that the investigation involved allegations that coursework marks of more than 200 ICT BTec students were changed before being handed over to the exam board.

A school spokeswoman said: "The Ravens Wood Learning Trust has co-operated fully with the Pearson investigation.

"The Trust is aware of the sanctions imposed but have no further comment at this time."

Meanwhile, an Ofsted report in June last year found the Oakley Road school, which became an academy in April 2011, 'requires improvement'.

The previous Ofsted report, in November 2007, rated it 'outstanding'.

Ofsted inspectors returned to the school in November last year, and said senior leaders and governors were taking "effective action" to tackle problems.

They said 18 teachers had left the school and 15 new ones had joined.

Professor Sir George Berwick, the former executive principal of the school, retired in October. Colette Singleton is now CEO.
