A CEREMONY marking a milestone in the development of the new £120 million Erith Park estate has been postponed because of bad weather.

The ‘topping out’ ceremony had been due to take place tomorrow morning to mark construction of the first phase of the scheme reaching its uppermost point.

But with more high winds and rain forecast tomorrow plans to hoist participants to the top of the development on the site of the former Larner Road estate have been put on hold.

In a long-standing building tradition developers Wates Living Space, housing association Orbit South and Bexley Council leader Councillor Teresa O’Neill had been due to take part in presenting an engraved trowel to members of the Larner Road Residents’ Association.

Vivien Knibbs, executive director of Orbit South, said: “We’re delighted with the progress being made at Erith Park and look forward to welcoming the first residents into their new homes later this year.

“Once complete, Erith Park will completely transform the area, bringing considerable investment and creating homes which people can really be proud of.”

Seven seven high rise housing blocks are being replaced with around 550 new homes for 3,000 residents.

Work on phase one of the project began in April 2013 with 343 properties set for completion by the end of the year.
