WOOLWICH'S Royal Artillery Band wmarched out of their barracks for the last time at the weekend, after a 250-year association with the town.
They are moving to Wiltshire in April as part of a restructuring by the Ministry of Defence.
They said goodbye with a performance in General Gordon Square on Sunday (Feb 9) which saw former players and current ones entertain the crowds.
The Royal Artillery Band and Orchestra - the UK's oldest - was formed during the Seven Years War, when officers of the Royal Artillery serving in Germany decided they wanted a musical group to play on social occasions. It has been based in Woolwich for almost its entire 252 year history.
Director of music Captain Craig Hallat said: "It has been a privilege to lead this band and perform at major events around the world.
"To be able to take the band to Afghanistan and entertain the soldiers was a highlight of this period of my career."
