Battle to win charity eBay auction for Bromley girl this Valentine's Day hots up

A BROMLEY girl who’s auctioning herself on eBay for a Valentine’s Day charity date has already amassed 59 bids and raised over £600.

With six days still to go Hope Anscomb’s promise of romance has proved very popular indeed and she said she’s now hoping to collect far more than she originally expected to.

The 24-year-old, of Valley Road, explained she had thought she stood to make around £100 for the Autism Trust, adding she “nearly fell out of bed” when she saw the £500 mark had been topped this morning.

She said: “I’m a little bit in awe of it – I’m not quite sure how to react.

“It’s kind of incredible. I’m really looking forward to it now.”

This afternoon the highest bid stood at £601, with 150 people watching the auction and 15 contenders doing battle to land a date with the single lady.

Miss Anscomb's promised dinner at a swanky Italian restaurant in Bloomsbury on the night, as well as “charm and wit” and the “chance to brag to your mates that you did something stupid for charity”.

She admitted she hopes the evening’s appeal is a reflection of peoples’ support for the organisation, while mentioning there’s also now even more pressure to “be a good date”.

“I hope it’s because people are feeling generous and it’s a good cause.

“It’s put me under pressure to be a really good date now.”

Since September the brave bachelorette’s been busy with a number of challenges to raise money for the trust, with 24-hour hula hooping, a kissing booth and bag packing all contributing to the £1,800 she’s gathered so far.

Now she’s set her sights on collecting over half of that sum from her Valentine’s Day promise, which went live at the start of the month, alone.

She said: “If I can get to £1,000 it would be brilliant. It seems like it might be possible.”
