AN ELDERLY man was rescued from a Greenwich fire in his living room last night (Feb 3).
Crews were called out to Ashburnham Place at 7.18pm and brought the blaze under control by 8.26pm
Watch manager Nathan Hobson from Greenwich fire station said: "Crews worked quickly to get the fire under control and escort the elderly gentleman to safety. Fortunately he wasn’t injured, though paramedics from London Ambulance Service checked him over at the scene.
"The fire crews did very well and the incident was brought to a swift and safe conclusion.
"Make sure you test your smoke alarm regularly - they can provide early warning in the event of a fire and give you time to escape safely. As we see time and time again, they really do save lives."
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
