RESIDENTS in Lee Green are on alert after a bogus workman attempted to enter an elderly man’s property.

A man knocked on the door of an OAP in Brightfield Road on January 28, saying that he needed to inspect his drains because they were blocked.

The resident prevented him from entering the house but gave his phone number so that the workman could call him later that day.

Lewisham Council says a follow-up call is likely where a counterfeit drainage company demand money for machinery use in the area.

Trading Standards are advising people not to deal with these workmen and to report the matter to police by calling 101.

It is also recommended that residents do not give out personal details and should contact their drainage company if they require an official inspection.
