A MAN has been jailed for six weeks after grabbing a 13-year-old girl’s bottom on a Bromley bus.

Kitchen worker Michael Kowilski, of Woolwich Road, Bexleyheath, was found guilty of outraging public decency and sexual assault. He was sentenced at Bromley Magistrates’ Court on Friday January 17 after pleading guilty to last year's offence as well as an earlier incident where he masturbated in public.

The 30-year-old had been travelling on a 320 service near Downham Way on October 23 last year when he groped the teenager while she was travelling to school.

He was arrested at a bus stop in Bromley late last year after police launched an investigation following the girl’s report of the incident. She told officers she had challenged him, but after he ignored her she got off the bus to notify the authorities.

Superintendent Rob Revill from the Met’s Safer Transport command said: "This sentence highlights our commitment to tackling sexual offences on London's buses. We take all reports of sexual offences on buses seriously and are committed to bringing offenders to justice.

"If someone has made you feel uncomfortable on your bus journey – however minor it may seem to you - reporting it to police can help us target the perpetrator and prevent it happening to another passenger."

In an interview, Mr Kowilski is said to have made a full admission – while he also told officers of a previous offence in April 2011 where he was seen masturbating on a bus on Sevenoaks Way.

Transport for London's deputy director of enforcement and on-street operations Siwan Hayward added: "We are pleased that this sex offender has been caught and brought to justice."

He has also been placed on the Sex Offender Register for seven years.
