GREENWICH police's borough commander is leaving the borough for Lambeth, he has revealed.

Detective Chief Superintendent Richard Wood made the announcement to councillors as he told them that total crime in the borough had fallen by 31 per cent since 2007/8.

Greenwich's top cop joined the borough back in 2009 with a pledge to reduced youth crime and increase the number of bobbies on the beat.

A spokeswoman for Greenwich police said: "We can confirm that Borough Commander Richard Wood has been posted to Lambeth, after serving for nearly five years in Greenwich. He will take up his new role in March."
