A LOCAL business earlier this month presented a nearby charity branch with a cheque for £4,000 after winning a company accolade.

Intu Properties staff from Bromley paid a visit to the borough’s Mencap offices to hand over the money on January 7 after being awarded a national prize for its work with the cause.

Intu runs an annual scheme that sees its offices team up with local organisations to champion community spirit.

This year saw Bromley’s operation prevail and Patrick Burgess MBE, chairman of Intu, handed over the money to Mencap Bromley’s chief executive, Eddie Lynch, who said he was “delighted”.

He added: “We have been working with local employers for over 20 years and have established a range of successful partnerships to support disabled people into mainstream jobs.

“This prize reflects the close working relationship we have developed with Intu Bromley.”

Alexander Nicoll, the company’s director of corporate responsibility, said his team has forged a “fantastic partnership” with the charity.

The setup sees employees support Mencap’s efforts helping local disabled people, and two have even gone onto obtaining jobs at Intu as a result.
