THE friend of a woman killed after being hit by a car in Locksbottom has been paying tribute to "a very pleasant woman with lots of friends".

Sylvia Bousted, aged 92, was struck by a car while crossing Crofton Road at around 10.15am on January 21.

Friend Brian Michell says she was an active member of the South Crofton Social Club and was sprightly for her age.

The 83-year-old is chairman of the entertainments committee and said he saw her just days before the accident at the club’s weekend New Year function.

"She came and kissed me and said thank you for a lovely evening," he said.

"She took part in lots of parties at the club.

"It’s so sad really when something like this happens."

He added the long-term member was a prominent figure in the community who would be greatly missed.

Mr Michell also said he was told "she was killed outright," and mentioned "her shopping trolley was smashed".

The elderly widow was said to have been crossing near a waiting bus when she was hit by a Jaguar X Type.

Last week police reported the driver of the car involved stopped at the scene and was not arrested.

After the accident officers appealed for witnesses and said they were hoping to trace the occupants of a white car and a pedestrian at a nearby bus stop.

Ms Bousted was taken to Kings College Hospital in Lambeth but later died.
