STUDENTS at Goldsmith’s University backed their “stretched” lecturers yesterday (January 23) with a two-hour strike over a pay dispute.
Demonstrators gathered outside the university's Deptford Town Hall building, in New Cross, to protest against academics gaining a one per cent pay increase compared to university bosses averaging around eight per cent.
President of Goldsmith’s Students’ Union Conrad Grant, 22, said: “We are supporting our lecturers.
“They are the student face in the staff and some of them are PHD students. They are being stretched quite a lot at the moment and are being paid less.”
“It is linked to a national pay dispute in regard to the vast increase in pay for senior management compared to lecturers.”
The national strike was launched by the University and College Union with another planned outside Goldsmith's on Tuesday (January 28).
