Waste4Fuel recycling plant in St Paul's Cray on fire AGAIN

ST PAUL'S Cray recycling plant Waste4Fuel is on fire yet again this morning (January 23) with residents complaining of a “dreadful stench” coming from the rubbish mound.

Twenty-one firefighters from Sidcup, Eltham and Orpington are battling the blaze at the Cornwall Drive site. They were called out at 7.22am.

This week, News Shopper called for action over the plant, which has seen ten fires in the past year, and has run up costs to the fire brigade of £560,000.

Maxine O’Connor, 67, who lives in nearby Sevenoaks Way, told News Shopper: “It is on fire again.

“The smoke and the fumes are dreadful. We have had a terrible stink coming since Monday.

“The stench and the sight of it is disgraceful.

“There’s a height of at least 40 to 45 feet of rubbish.

“Cornwall Drive is running alive with rats.

“It is supposed to be a recycling plant.

“It’s toxic. People who live here are fed up.”

ps I have just looked on Companies House webcheck - their registered office isn't AT the site, is it??

Surely now is the time for the council to send in its own workers to clear away the rubbish and lock the site up. The fires must have created more environmental damage and caused more water shortages than any attempt by Waste4Fuel has made to contribute to the environment.

If the Fire Brigade are called out to false alarms to firms in the City of London, the firm is fined. Clearly the fires in question are not false alarms, but the taxpayers should not be paying for the Fire Brigade to attend.

Questions need to be asked about Waste4fuel, as to who is behind the company. Such as are local councillors, are any involved or receiving goods or services or payment?.

How many jobs would be lost locality, be it directly employed by this company. Or spin off jobs because this company exists?.

I consider there is more to this company, that needs to be told.

Are the fires that have occurred, worse than other companies. Providing the same service, or is only this company?.

As I understand, this company has recieved many warning. But why action has never been taken to shut down this site?.

It's now time for facts to be told, is there more behind all this?.

If you go to http://wck2.companie

etails you can order information, such as who are the directors. You may need to set up an account, but the information is not expensive if you receive it online. Taken from Waste4Fuel's website: "We are a company that specialises in the collection and correct disposal of waste that can be reprocessed for use in generating electricity......Ini
tial estimates show that producing fuel from residual waste is a better environmental option than landfilling waste, even when you take into account transportation." I dread to think what would happen if anyone was in this particular business who did not specialise. As for being a better enviromental option - well, it's a joke, isn't it?

I have hear (and excuse my words I don't mean to offend) the the site is operated by gypsies and this is why the council won't step in.
Not 100% sure if this is TRUE or not.
But I work nearby and the smell is disgusting!
Why did the home owners not object to the waste site being opened in the first place (before it was w4f)
And who can we phone to complain about the smell?

Its simple maths really. Landfill tax is I think about £60 a ton. Let the rubbish ignite in your yard and low and behold a cash saving all the time its alight. There is no incentive to do things properly in fact the opposite, so I cant see this problem going away any time soon.

It is ridiculous this is still going on!
Fire engines have definitely been there more than ten times in the past year,
I feel so sorry for the families that live in the homes right next to the dump, Not only is this ongoing disgrace ruining the day to day running of their lives it must have also slashed the value of their houses and effected their health physically and mentally.
The problems this place causes are endless, There is no way of knowing when it will be on fire, just that inevitability it will be again, frequently.
I have been late to work, causing friction and loss of wages, in turn then making my boss(im a nanny) late for her job, causing her problems. Even when the dump is not on fire, when walking past I have to cover my face with my perfumed sprayed scarf the smell sometimes can be truly sickening. The main road that runs along by the dump is constantly strewn with rubbish which yes is probably somewhat not helped by the school opposite, but is clearly made worse by the dump being so high and winds carrying rubbish and debris. Another thing to mention up until a couple of weeks ago there were horses in the field next to this dump, surely that shouldn't have been allowed.
