A BLAZE broke out in Gravesend yesterday lunchtime (JAN 21).

Rubbish was engulfed in flames in Dering Way near to a caravan site and kept firefighters busy for more than three hours.

Kent Fire and Rescue sent two fire engines and the police also attended.

Crews in breathing apparatus used a hosereel jet and cold cutting equipment to tackle the blaze which involved a large quantity of building material and rubbish.

They warned residents to keep their doors and windows closed as a precaution, due to the large smoke plume.
