A PETTS Wood parish has been busy planting trees, donating shoes and creating a 'worship garden' for charity.

Since September 2012 parishioners at St James' Church in Crescent Drive have been fundraising for the Catholic Agency For Overseas Development's (CAFOD) LiveSimply award.

Fundraising events, including a curry night, have seen £1,200 sent to the village of Kainmari in Bangladesh while 180 pairs of shoes have been posted to the Rafiki project in Kenya and 40 trees planted in Britain's woodlands.

Meanwhile, the church's 'worship garden' will provide a quiet place for meditation and reflection, an area for socialising and an area for wildlife.

St James' parishioner Roger Wright said: "Working towards CAFOD's LiveSimply Award has been really special, St James' community have really come together in working towards the different initiatives, and the support from our parishioners has been incredible."
