PICTURED: Greenwich recycling plant on fire for second time in 5 days
TWENTY-ONE firefighters battled a blaze at a Greenwich recycling plant - the second fire at the premises this week.
The brigade was called out to the Murphy's Waste facility in Horn Link Way at 7.48am this morning (January 15).
There are 400 tonnes of mixed waste on site, around 10 per cent of which was believed the be alight.
And because of the compressed nature of the rubbish, it took until 10.39am to bring the fire under control.
Crews from Greenwich, East Greenwich and Plumstead fire stations were at the scene.
Just four days ago, a fire broke out at the same plant and took more than five hours to bring under control. The cause of that fire is still under investigation.
No one from Murphy's Waste was available to comment.
