MAJOR plans to redevelop Gravesend’s Heritage Quarter are on track, according to the developers behind the project.

Edinburgh House was controversially granted planning permission in April to go ahead with a £120 million scheme in a bid to create 800 jobs, 330 homes and generate £8 million in spending per year.

The Western Quarter will see 190 new apartments built while 130 are planned for the Eastern Quarter along with a 50-bedroom hotel and a market square with space for cafés and restaurants.

A spokeswoman for Edinburgh House said: "Our plans are on track and we aim for work to begin on-site at the end of the year in the Eastern Quarter on the car park by the Borough Market.

"Since planning permission was granted there has been substantial work done on the project such as the legal agreements for the land and the development process.

"The development will require many skills and services during the building process and we’d like to work with as many local companies as possible.
