AN INQUEST has been opened into the death of an 84-year-old who stepped "into the path of a car" in Chislehurst.
Cyril Carey suffered head injuries after being hit by the vehicle in White Horse Hill, Chislehurst, near the junction with Beanshaw at around 10am on December 14.
He was airlifted to hospital but died of his injuries the same day.
The car driver stopped at the scene and there have been no arrests since the accident.
Opening the inquest at Croydon Coroners' Court today (January 9), coroner Dr Roy Palmer said: "He stepped off the pavement into the path of a car."
Witnesses have told News Shopper that Mr Carey had just got off a bus when the accident happened.
The inquest was adjourned until a later date.
