SOUTHEASTERN will start work on a £420,000 upgrade of Blackheath station next week.

Builders will start construction of a brand new booking hall at the station on January 8. It is due to be completed in the spring.

Improvements will include two accessible ticket office windows, improved lighting and CCTV plus a remodelled waiting room with extra seating.

The work will see the ticket office closed for the duration, with a temporary one in the car park at the rear of platform 2.

Alison Nolan from Southeastern said: "This project is part of our ongoing commitment to invest in and improve rail services for our passengers. We’re building a much larger booking hall with a queuing system and two accessible ticket windows.

"This will make it easier for people to purchase tickets, they’ll have a place to sit down and we’re adding space for a small tenancy as well.

"It’s a big job - the work will take a few months to complete, so we’d like to thank people in advance for their patience during this time. Once the work is complete, the station booking hall will be a lot bigger and certainly a lot better."
