WORK on the huge £19million upgrade of Gravesend station is due to finish on Monday.

The multi-million pound upgrade will see the station accommodate longer 12-carriage trains thanks to a new platform, while passengers will also benefit from a new footbridge and lifts providing step-free access to all platforms.

All lines in and out of the station have been closed and Rathmore Road, running alongside the station, was closed and turned into a makeshift village for the workers.

Network Rail said the change would provide up to 3,500 extra seats and more space for passengers.

It adds to the new footbridge, which now comes with lifts.

The old listed bridge, thought to be about 150 years old, was removed weeks earlier and given to a conservation group.
