GREENWICH’S O2 Arena has celebrated a record-breaking 2013 in which it welcomed more than nine million visitors through the doors.

There were 185 events at the arena this year and it was the number one most checked-in UK destination on Facebook.

Highlights included One Direction playing 11 nights in April, Beyonce’s six shows selling out in record time, Michael Buble performing 10 sell-outs shows in July, Micky Flanagan playing to more than 100,000 people over seven nights and JLS’ final show.

May’s fight between Carl Froch and Mikkel Kessler saw the most pints sold at an event at the arena, with 21,239 being served up.

It beat the previous best of 17,775 sold at the darts in 2012.

The return of Fleetwood Mac, who played three sell-out shows in August, was also a thirsty affair with 2,031 bottles of wine sold at one of the gigs. That beat the O2’s previous high of 1,729 at a Rolling Stones show in 2012.

The arena has high hopes for next year, with the likes of Monty Python, Miranda Hart, Taylor Swift, Beyonce, Katy Perry, WWE and the NBA all booked in already.
