CAMPAIGNERS against a new road tunnel at the Greenwich peninsula are seeking volunteers for a big new pollution survey.

The No to Silvertown Tunnel group sparked debate earlier this year with figures showing heavily polluted roads around the routes to Transport for London's proposed new crossing.

Now they plan a new study in January and are looking for people to help fit air pollution monitor tubes or provide funding.

The study will run along the A2 into Welling, Sidcup and Bexleyheath. It will also target Creek Road and Evelyn Street in Deptford and the South Circular towards Catford.

Campaigner Darryl Chamberlain said: "Whether you’re on your own or there’s a couple of you, or you’re in a community group, we’d like the widest possible number of people to take part, whether north or south of the river Thames.

"All we ask is that you put the tubes up on a weekday between January 6 and 10, leave them there for four weeks, and take them down between February 3 and 7."

The campaign will formalise its constitution on January 12. Email info@silvertowntunnel.co.uk or visit silvertowntunnel.co.uk
