THE final member of a group of Crystal Palace and Brighton fans accused of taking part in a mass brawl has admitted his involvement.

Robert Carl, aged 45, from Surrey, pleaded guilty to violent disorder and was sentenced to eight months in prison, suspended for 18 months, at Blackfriars Crown Court last Tuesday (December 17).

He was also handed a three year football banning order.

On November 10 last year, a group of Palace fans had been to watch the Eagles play at Peterborough, while the Brighton fans had been watching their side at Wolverhampton Wanderers.

At around 7.35pm, the Crystal Palace supporters made their way from Kings Cross station to two pubs in Caledonian Road.

At the same time Brighton supporters arrived at Euston train station and made their way to the same pubs.

Around 60 supporters then confronted each other in the middle of Caledonian Road, with glasses, litter bins and shop display boards thrown.

At first there were only two police officers on the scene but as more police units approached the fighting stopped and the men fled.

Police managed to arrest 20 men in connection with the incident and charged 12, of which nine have been found guilty and three have been acquitted.

Declan Clarke, aged 22, from Epsom, Hayden Johnson, aged 20, from Croydon, Adam Marshall, aged 23, from Epsom, and Dean Kirby, aged 29, from Lingfield, were found guilty of violent disorder at Blackfriars Crown Court and have been remanded in custody until January 21 for sentencing.

James Hackett, aged 21, from Thornton Heath, pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing. He was remanded in custody and will appear alongside Kirby, Clarke, Johnson and Marshall for sentencing.

Philip Blackman, aged 33, Paul Zammit, aged 46, both from East Sussex, and Richard Kepner, aged 46, from West Sussex, all pleaded guilty to violent disorder in November and have been given varying prison sentences.
