Dementia sufferer reunited with lost car after News Shopper appeal
A LOST car has been reunited with its owner after an appeal was put out by the family in the News Shopper last week.
Marie Wand, 83, from Danson Road, Bexleyheath, who suffers from dementia, was without her beloved blue Vauxhall Corsa for a month after she went out on November 27 for a routine doctor's appointment at the Memorial Hospital in Shooters Hill.
The grandmother never turned up for the appointment and the next thing Marie's family knew she had returned home that evening without the car.
The only clues to her whereabouts were a Papa John's Pizza and petrol receipt from Hayes Lane in Bromley.
Amazingly on the day the newspaper came out and after the story went online the car was found by a reader.
Laura Bullions, 37, from Forestdale, near Croydon, noticed the car parked in Station Road, West Wickham, outside the Boots store.
Laura, who works with the elderly as a helper, said: "I noticed the car because it was parked in the space I normally use in the morning.
Marie Wand has her car back in time for Christmas.
"I normally leave my car there and get my breakfast in the morning. I thought something was awry when I didn't see it move for weeks.
"I thought it was maybe an elderly person's car who had had an accident and that's why it hadn't been picked up.
"When I read the story on the News Shopper website I was amazed and e-mailed the family right away. I took a picture and made sure it was the right number plate just to be 100 per cent sure.
"I am really pleased for this lady that she will have the car back for Christmas Day."
Marie's daughter Sacha Wand, 48, from Mottingham, said the family were “very pleased and relieved” the car has been found.
She added: "Mum is so pleased. She has felt totally lost without her car. It's her independence. Thank you to everyone who looked for it.
"She will be able to go to her Christmas Day meal now and have a great day."
