THIS is the scene which greeted horrified mourners when they went to visit their father’s grave.

The Vazquez family has made regular visits to London Road Cemetery in Bromley since their father died seven months ago, to tend the plot and pay their respects.

But when they arrived on Saturday they noticed a new grave had been dug up next to their father’s and they found all the rubble and earth had been dumped on their father’s plot.

And Phil Vazquez says the plaque, ornaments and flowers which had been set up on the grave had just been put on one side.

Mr Vazquez said: “We were disgusted to find this, when we wanted to come and pay our respects.

“What makes matters worse, is myself and my family are still grieving for our loss.

“I feel that the diggers had a complete lack of respect for my father’s grave.”

A Bromley Council spokesman said, “We did try and contact the family prior to this excavation and have since spoken to the family to apologise for any distress caused.

“This is however standard working procedure in a very old and tightly packed cemetery and of course, the immediate area and any affected neighbouring graves will be tided as a matter of course after the impending funeral.”
