Lewisham Hospital trust's condolences to family of child who died on Christmas Day
LEWISHAM Hospital’s trust has offered its condolences to the family of a nine-year-old girl who died on Christmas Day hours after being discharged.
Rhianna Rawding, from Rochester, suffered from a severe kidney infection and was treated by a junior doctor at Lewisham Hospital last year but died from septicaemia shortly after being sent home.
The hospital says it has improved support given to junior doctors and nurses since Rhianna’s death and improved processes in its paediatric emergency department.
A spokesman for Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust said: “We would like to offer our sincere condolences to Mr and Mrs Rawding for the tragic death of their daughter Rhianna.
“Last year, Lewisham Hospital carried out a full investigation into what happened and we have improved processes in the Paediatric Emergency Department.
“This includes improving how we support junior doctors and nurses in recognising and managing children who are potentially seriously unwell.”
A coroner at an inquest into her death at Southwark Coroner’s Court on December 11 recorded a narrative verdict.
