AN 84-YEAR-OLD man who died after being knocked down by a car had just stepped off a bus when the accident occurred, it is believed.

The pensioner sustained head injuries in the crash, which happened in White Horse Hill, Chislehurst, near the junction with Beanshaw at around 10am on Saturday (December 14).

He was airlifted to hospital after the accident and died of his injuries the same day.

The car driver stopped at the scene and there have been no arrests.

Sixty-eight-year-old Sylvia Andrews, who lives near the scene, said: “It was an elderly man who got off the bus and was crossing the road.

“It was just a shock - there were police cars everywhere and ambulances.”

And Robert James, 63, of White Horse Hill, said: “This is really a dangerous road; I had to cut a midwife from a car right in front of my house a couple of years ago.”

“Parking on the pavement is banned but it blocks the bus stop and means everyone has to weave in and out down the road.

"It makes it more dangerous and no one is doing anything about it.”

Babs Olalee, 30, of Beanshaw, said: “I saw a white car with a smashed window and then when I got closer I saw a policeman and a person on the floor.

“There was at least five ambulances and I saw a female doctor, they were trying to resuscitate the person.

“At some point the policeman told us ‘If you are not a witness please leave’.

“It is a shock to me to hear that they died.”

Any witnesses are asked to call the police on 101.
