MORE than 100 pensioners learned how to stay healthy this winter at a special fancy dress event in Bexleyheath.
The gathering at the Civic Offices aimed to teach Bexley’s older residents about keeping warm and well during the winter months.
The borough has one of the largest elderly populations in London and older residents are more vulnerable to long-term conditions like heart disease, diabetes and respiratory illnesses.
Participants in fancy dress on December 6 were also filled in about plans for Queen Mary’s Hospital in Sidcup, which was taken over by Oxleas Foundation Trust in October pledging a £30 million investment.
Crayford resident and Bexley Patient Council representative Lionel Eastmond said: "This has been a fantastic afternoon. People really got into the festive spirit by dressing up and dancing.
"It’s good news that money is going to be invested into the development of the Queen Mary’s site.
"I hope this will bring about further improvements for both patients and staff as the site and services continue and develop."
