A FORTY-three-year-old cyclist killed after being hit by a car near Gravesend last night is believed to be Leon Edwards.

He was pronounced dead at the scene in Gravesend Road, Shorne, following a collision with a silver Citroen MPV at around 9.10pm.

Road and air ambulances attended but could not save him. The male driver of the car was not injured.

The road was closed from the Gravesend Road junction with Green Farm Lane, Wainscott Bypass, to Castle Lane before being reopened at 12.30am.

Mr Edwards’ brother Vince posted on Facebook: “To all my friends I am very sorry to say my brother Leon Edwards was knocked of his push bike and killed last night. RIP. Bro”

A number of other tributes to Mr Edwards, from Chatham, have been posted. Kim Mccann said: “Good bloke, heart of gold! Shocked n gutted x RIP Leon Edwards”

Jo Pethig added: “RIP Leon Edwards, just found out, he was my upstairs neighbour for over 4 years, Hope they have a pint waiting for you up in Heaven xx”

Kent Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit is appealing for witnesses to the collision.

Officers would like to speak to anyone who saw what happened or witnessed any of the events leading up to it.
