UPDATE: Two people rushed to hospital after five car pile-up on A2 near Bluewater
TWO people were rushed to hospital following a five car pile-up on the A2 near Bluewater yesterday (December 8).
The crash left one vehicle in flames and miles of tailbacks for other drivers.
Firefighters were called to the incident around half a mile from the Bean Interchange on the Londonbound carriageway at about 11am.
They took around 30 minutes to put the fire out and make the scene safe.
Everyone involved in the collision was out of their vehicles by the time the crews arrived but two people were rushed to hospital.
A spokesman for South East Cost Ambulance Service said: "We were called at 11.10am to a multiple road traffic collision.
"We sent three ambulance crews and a car to the scene and the air ambulance also attended.
"We treated four patients but only two were taken to hospital.
"Most of them were suffering from neck pain but one woman, in her 30s, was experiencing a headache so we were concerned for a possible head injury.
"She was taken to King’s College Hospital in Denmark Hill and the other patient was taken to Darent Valley Hospital."
