BEXLEYHEATH and Crayford MP David Evennett has applauded the Chancellor’s autumn statement for helping local businesses.

George Osborne announced plans on Thursday (Dec 5) to boost the High Street with financial incentives.

Proposals include giving businesses in rateable properties of less than £50,000 a £1,000 discount in their rates.

Meanwhile, companies which take over empty shop premises will see a reduction in business rates while the planned rise to business rates will be reduced to two per cent.

Mr Evennett said: "Some 5,000 businesses in Bexley will benefit as a result of the action we are taking to help the High Street.

"By freezing fuel duty again, petrol will be 20p a litre cheaper than it would have been under Labour.

"Pensioners are benefiting from the Conservatives’ commitment to providing real increases in the state pensions and there is further action to help young people to find jobs."
