THE mother of murdered teenager Stephen Lawrence has paid tribute to Nelson Mandela, who died yesterday.

Taking to Twitter to pay her respects, Baroness Doreen Lawrence tweeted: "Mandela a man of justice and peace. Rest in peace."

Twenty years ago Mr Mandela shone a light on Britain’s own racial problems when he met the baroness and her husband in May 1993.

Mr Mandela, who had addressed both Houses of Parliament the night before the meeting, said: "We are deeply touched by the brutality of this murder, even though it is commonplace in our country. It seems black lives are cheap.

"The evil of racism is taking away innocent lives.

“The problems of racism and fascism is threatening the whole world."

Mr Mandela's death aged 95 at his home in South Africa has sparked a wave of emotional tributes from people across the world.

Mandela had his faults, today is not the day to dwell on them.

But remember that it was Willem De Klerk who relased Mandela, had his surly predecessor not retired Mandela would still be a convicted terrorist.

You are not the only one...

Ed Balls can consider himself very lucky as his lobster face would have cherished the cover of every paper had Mandela not passed away yesterday.

"Man of justice and peace" - How is it that it is never mentioned that this man headed up a terrorist organisation that planted bombs and killed innocent people? Ok, he might have campaigned for peace in his later years and for that he fully deserves the credit, but one can't simply forget these things. He only came off of the US terrorist watch list in 2008. In the mid 1980's, an MP declared that he "should be shot". I'm just saying, lest not forget the bad things this man did as well as the good rather than look at his whole life with rose tinted glasses.

Agree 100%. Don't forget beating his wife/s. Also watch how the family are going to behave now he has passed. They all want to earn money out of his death. One of his son wanted to charge people to see the body as a tourist attraction.

Some people say prison doesn't work, but Nelson didn't reoffend after he got out.

to say that because countries like africa are poor and that justifies killing of farmers is wrong. a lot of people from african continent have come to this country and the crime levels committed here by them are higher than any other nationality. also this country gives millions to africa and its their own government who are letting people starve. there is also a lot of black on black crime. their problems are more like the enemy within than to put blame elsewhere.to say that some people were being biased is not true, they were also pointing out that the ANC killed black and white people.
