The Covingtons have been lighting up the area for three years now, leaving a bucket outside their home to collect for The Prostate Cancer Charity.

And Mrs Covington,  60, says hire firm Travis Perkins agreed to provide scaffolding free of charge - allowing daughters Amanda, 46, and Corinne, 34, to clamber up and hang the lights.

She said: "None of the money goes on the 'leccy. It all goes straight to the prostate cancer charity.

"It's a great way to raise awareness. If a person goes past, looks up and then goes and gets checked out that's a good thing."

I drive past this every evening on my way home from work. Don't want to be all Bah Humbug but it's dangerous. Drivers in front of me are slowing down rubber necking. It's too distracting to be next to a busy road. Well done on raising money for charity though.
