LEWISHAM Council will build a further 94 homes in New Cross, Blackheath and Forest Hill, after the mayor backed them.

Plans for the properties, part of a 250-home project providing the borough's first new council housing in 30 years, will now be drawn up for consultation prior to appplying for planning permission.

The homes will all be built on council-owned land, mainly rows of old garages, with sites spread out across the borough.

They include 23 in Longfield Crescent in Forest Hill and a further 15 in nearby Woodvale.

Thirty-two properties are planned for Dacre Street and Boone Street in Blackheath while an old garage site in Achilles Street, New Cross, will be replaced by 18 homes.

Six new Lee homes in the Housing Matters scheme are currently being built between Mercator Road and Lee High Road.
