A DRIVER in his 40s had to be cut from his vehicle following a Plumstead High Street smash between a car and a van last night (December 2).

Emergency services were sent to the high street, near the junction with Lakeside Road, at around 7.30pm.

Two fire engines from Plumstead and a Bexley fire rescue unit attended, releasing the injured man from his vehicle using cutting equipment.

A spokeswoman for the London Ambulance Service said: "There was one patient, reported to be in his 40s. He was treated for neck pain and taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital."

The accident left the high street blocked for around an hour.

Police attended but no arrests have been made.
